Construction carpenter

Main functions: 
Reporting to the Site Superintendent, the Construction Carpenter is primarily responsible for the construction of residential housing including large scale apartment complexes and town homes.  



Duties and Responsibilities:
* Lay building foundations
* Prepare framing for Cement
* Create cement forms/mix and pouring of  cement (including stairs)
* Frame for building including doors and windows
* Put up siding, flooring, roofing and scaffolding as needed
* Proficient at stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters
* Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices and procedures
* Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints
* Perform renovations as required and instructed by the Supervisor
* May required to supervise other workers on  the site
* Assist with the delivery of other related municipal services
* Keep a daily log of tasks for tracking purposes
* Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
* Perform other related duties, as assigned 



Requirements:
* High School Diploma/GED Completion
* Minimum 5 years’ experience or combination of education and experience
* Current Journey Person’s Carpenter’s Certificate or Certificate of Apprenticeship is an advantage
* Knowledgeable in reading and understanding construction plans
* Demonstrated ability in carpentry and building maintenance
* Established safe operation of basic hand and power tools
* Proven numerical and analytical skills to perform materials and labour estimates, including interpretation of job cost reports      
* Highly skilled to do layout, framing, finishing of typical projects, including a variety of room additions, and renovations.
* Demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete assigned duties efficiently
* Established good communication  skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
* Willing and able to work long hours and work in a fast pace environment
* Demonstrated ability to ensure quality and safety of all work performed
* Demonstrated ability work with  team
* Proven ability to work with minimal supervision


Working Conditions:
* Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
* Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required
* Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
* Overtime as required
* Hazards associated with the trade
* Work both indoors and outdoors
* Will be exposed to construction sites with varying weather conditions
