Reports to the Program Supervisor, this position requires a self-directed, flexible, and organized goal oriented individual with a sense of humour and with a minimum of 3 years combined education and experience in the Human Services Field. This position provides direct intervention for clients on issues related to: addictive patterns of behaviour; concurrent disorders; and other mental health behavioural and emotional concerns such as abuse, violence, grief and loss when these are connected to addictions or the impact of addictions. Provides primary therapy to clients via individual and group sessions, crisis intervention, treatment planning, discharge planning and conducts communications with referral sources. This position is responsible as part of the counselling team for intake which includes applications, assessments, and admissions. |

Knowledge •Requires sound knowledge of various addiction counselling theories; mental health issues and abuse and violence issues. •A comprehensive understanding of group process, strength-based principles of treatments and an individualized approach to treatment is desired. •Knowledge of the 16 and 12 step programs •Sound clinical judgment and strong assessment and treatment skills Skills •Experience in a variety of modalities of individual counselling and group facilitation •Crisis intervention skills including ability to handle high stress levels •Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with all levels of employees and volunteers •Knowledge of the homelessness situation an asset •Non-judgmental with the ability to maintain healthy & appropriate treatment boundaries •Professional presentation of self with clients and in the community •Intermediate proficiency in the use of personal computers for word processing (Word), email Tasks and Responsibilities •Facilitate educational and process oriented groups •Conduct individual counselling sessions •Maintain an appropriate client case load including intake and outreach •Adapt treatment modalities to a client’s individual characteristics and needs •Assist clients with transition or discharge planning •Record case notes and produce client-related documentation as required •Compile caseload statistics and enter into computerized program •Attend staff and clinical team meetings and present cases as necessary •Participate in supervision with Program Supervisor •To be responsible for one’s own professional development •To be aware of the latest policies, procedures, mandates, Mission, of Youville Women’s Residence •With the Program Supervisor, will provide information and collaborate as needed to community at large regarding Youville Women’s Residence programs •Other duties as assigned |
