Position: Farm Manager
Duration: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: 40/wk

Salary: $19.50/hr
Overtime: As per provincial standards for farm workers/managers (time-and-a-half)
Benefits: N/A
Medical: BC MSP premiums payable by employee

Position Description:
o A farm manager is responsible for the financial and physical performance of the farm
and as such will be highly skilled in all aspects of the farm business
o Farm managers need to have technical and practical competence, as well as the ability
to make sound business decisions
o Farm managers must appreciate the need to satisfy regulations set by the Department
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) for safe, high-quality produce farmed in
an environmentally sustainable manner
o Farm managers are responsible for planning, organising and managing the activities of
a farm

Qualifications/Desirables:
o Post-Secondary Diploma/Certificate in Agribusiness Management/Agriculture/ Rural
Staff Management or equivalent hands-on experiences of at least 3-5 years of
successfully managing a 32+ acre farm.
o Well-developed technical skills at all aspects of farm operations and management
o Have a proven ability to handle the necessary planning and organisation to achieve
targets and enforce company and governmental policies

Position Duties:
o Understand the implications of the weather and make contingency plans
o Plan finances and maximize production to maintain farm progress against budget
parameters
o Arrange and ensure product is taken to market appropriately and timely
o Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how
they spread and how to treat them
o Work with Supervisors and provide guidance on leadership standards
o Ensure new staff are inducted and aware of company policies and are given role clarity
o Provide training/coaching to staff to enable them to competently carry out tasks required
of them on farm
o Ensure that health and safety policies and procedures are understood and strictly
adhered to
o Conduct an annual review of staff performance (at least once a year for all on-farm
staff)

o Good interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively
o The ability to take initiative and handle whatever situation that may arise
o Must be flexible in nature in order to roll with ever-changing conditions
o Must have good technical knowledge and instincts of the environment
o Must know how to get people working together and enable teamwork
