Reporting to the Regional Director, Public Affairs & Stakeholder Relations and with a matrix reporting structure to the Director, Indigenous Engagement & Inclusion, this role will collaborate closely with other Communications team members, Indigenous Health, regional project and program teams, Community of Care leadership, and First Nations and Indigenous community partners to help VCH develop engagement programs and business initiatives that reflect the unique needs and considerations of Indigenous partners. The Leader, Indigenous Engagement, will lead the way in helping VCH embrace and adopt Indigenous perspectives and methodologies to guide community engagement work and inform initiatives throughout the health authority. Strong preference given to candidates identifying as Indigenous, including First Nations, Metis, or Inuit. Works with the broader Community Engagement team and VCH to embed Indigenous perspectives and Indigenous methodologies into the design and implementation of engagement initiatives Supports the development of protocols and resources to help guide and inform VCH engagement activities that promote cultural knowledge and safe and respectful cross-cultural interactions. Maintains knowledge and understanding of current Indigenous Health and health care system issues, policy, legislation, trends, research, etc. Tracks emerging promising practices around public participation and Indigenous engagement that can be incorporated into VCH engagement programs. Qualifications Education & Experience A university degree in community development, communications, public relations, marketing or another relevant discipline. A post-graduate degree and accreditation/certification (IAP2) would be an asset. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in community engagement and capacity building, or a health-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Indigenous cultural safety training or equivalent lived experience. Trauma informed practice education or experience would be an asset. Pursuant to Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Aboriginal (First Nation, Metis, or Inuit).
