Job Description
• Knowledge of Day Nurseries Act
• Knowledge of licensing regulations
• Establish guidelines for behavior
• Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
• Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest; provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
• Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
• Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
• Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
• Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
• Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
• Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers
• Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
• Order supplies and equipment
• Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
• Assist in maintaining and keeping records of children
• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
Requirements
-Education: Early Childhood Education bachelor’s degree or college diploma
(Classification Level I, II or III)
-Experience: Experience an asset
-Clear criminal record check is required
-Child abuse registry check is required.
-Valid First Aid and CPR certificates required
- Able to work independently.
-Well developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
Salary: $14.50 to 16.50 Hourly, for 40 to 45 Hours per week
Other: Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 - 9.5 hours per day. Workday starts at 9:00 AM / workday ends at 5:00 PM. Half hour lunch break.
