Job Description

Global Wealth & Asset Management (GWAM) is a key growth segment for Manulife, operating through three different channels (Retail, Retirement and Institutional) across North America, Asia and Europe, and making decisions easier and lives better by empowering investors for a better tomorrow.

Our Institutional business serves asset owners worldwide by leveraging the deep expertise of more than 650 investment professionals across 19 different markets. We have strong public and private markets expertise and are the largest natural capital investment manager. Our insurance heritage provides additional scale to our business and access to capital for product development initiatives and the ability to co-invest alongside our institutional customers.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy, the AVP Investment Markets and Institutional Strategy is an important catalyst and contributor to the overall strategy, growth, and transformation of the Manulife Investment Management and Global Institutional franchises. In this highly visible role, the candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the entire Global Institutional, Public and Private Markets leadership teams, as well as a senior member of the GWAM Strategy team, providing key insights and information to support the development and execution of our strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage the Global Institutional, Public and Private Markets Leadership Teams in strategy development, capital allocation and progress assessment discussions
  • Analyze key internal and external trends, benchmarks and notable competitor actions to bring insights and generate executive action by the leadership team
  • Ensure discretionary spend aligns with the agreed upon strategic roadmap and generates desired outcomes and financial benefits
  • Lead the design, implementation and ongoing management of the Objectives and Key Results program within our Global Institutional business
  • Work closely with Finance partners to monitor progress on strategy execution and delivery, identifying areas of intervention and required pivots where needed
  • Coordinate and develop materials for various executive audiences, ensuring consistency, readiness and alignment across the Global Institutional and GWAM teams
  • Facilitate and lead the development of strategy-related content for leadership team offsites
  • Work closely with key stakeholders on the development and execution of plans to communicate progress against ambition and strategic priorities
  • Develop and maintain materials and content that showcase and objectively assess the Global Institutional business for internal and external audiences
  • Foster collaboration, rigor and transparency to support the Global Institutional Leadership Team on execution of the strategy
  • Mentor and guide other professionals on the GWAM Strategy team

What we are looking for

  • Professional designation (MBA, CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CFA) preferred with 10+ years of relevant, progressively senior experience, in financial services
  • Strong business sense and extensive knowledge of the institutional asset management space, including private markets
  • Ability to work independently, get to the relevant information and pierce through silos
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and escalate issues in an effective manner
  • Ability to connect the dots and rapidly identify and surface the relevant patterns and issues
  • Politically astute, with strong situational sensitivity and ability to influence
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills
  • Emotional intelligence, with ability to demonstrate judgment, discretion and diplomacy
  • Ability to see the pain points and bottlenecks the leadership team faces in pushing the organization to change and find ways to mitigate
  • Result-oriented with an ability to multi-task, prioritize across multiple initiatives, drive accountability, and develop creative solutions where blueprints may not exist
  • Outstanding communication skills with shown ability to articulate complex business problems in simple and impactful words
  • Ability to develop a clear position / point of view on key questions and issues impacting the business
  • Team player, collaborative, self-starter, well-organized, innovative, and high level of initiative
  • Ability to lead and motivate professionals informally and formally

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
