Your Opportunity

To provide traffic management oversight for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) Pipeline Project. To work with Provincial Regulators, including the BC MOTI and Alberta Transportation (AT), to ensure traffic safety. This includes planning traffic management strategies, pertaining to the overall impact of the pipeline construction traffic on the motoring public. Those strategies must be implemented in safe, timely and efficient manner in coordination with the General Contractors. Ensure field audits are being conducted on work sites, to confirm compliance with the Contractor's Traffic Management Plan (TMP), which must meet or exceed the TMEP Traffic and Access Control Management Plan (TACMP).

Your Key Responsibilities

  • The Traffic Inspector (TI) is responsible for the audit and oversight of the General Contractor's Traffic Management Program and reports to the Senior Traffic Program Manager. This includes conducting regular inspections of documentation, compliance in traffic control plan implementation and management, oversight, direction and guidance on traffic related incidents. This includes ensuring the General Contractor's work sites are being operated in a safe and efficient manner for both the motoring public and TMEP workers.

  • The TI will coordinate communications with the provincial authorities including BC MoTI and AT. The TI will coordinate the activities of the Contractor's Traffic Manager as dictated by the TMEP Project requirements.

  • TI's will be responsible for providing oversight, direction and guidance in complicated traffic collision investigation, with subsequent reporting protocols to the TMEP Senior Traffic Manager.

  • TIs will complete field inspections on a daily basis, maintaining a journal. The results of the daily field inspections will be reported directly to the General Contractor and the TMEP Traffic Supervisor. Identified safety issues will be documented for immediate corrective action. Traffic Inspectors will complete a weekly summary report of their findings and submit to Traffic Supervisors. Traffic Inspectors will complete a similar report for each Contractor on a monthly basis. Traffic Inspectors will complete an annual audit on the Contractor's Traffic Management Plan to ensure it is being implemented appropriately and effectively. Any deficiencies noted by the Traffic Inspector will be communicated to the Traffic Supervisor and the Contractor who will be required to complete a corrective action plan to ensure timely resolution of any identified traffic safety issues.

  • The Traffic Inspector will review Traffic Control Plans, where traffic flow is affected, to ensure an effective and efficient emergency response plan is prepared for emergency service vehicles.

  • The Traffic Inspector maintain comprehensive notes relative to safety audits, amendments to Traffic Control Plans and the decisions made to ensure accountability in their weekly report.

Education & Experience

  • Documented completion of a Collision Investigation Course Level 1

  • Documented completion of a Collision Investigation Course Level II

  • Management experience in Traffic Incidents & Traffic Collisions

  • Experience in supervision or management of personnel

  • Experience in the ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports and correspondence relative to complicated traffic incidents and collisions

  • Experience in the ability to engage, problem-solve and provide motivated, proactive direction to arising situations requiring immediate decisions or reporting


  • Ability to communicate with Multi-agency stakeholders

  • Ability to liaise, provide direction and manage other agencies and personnel

  • Ability to engage, problem-solve and provide motivated, proactive direction to arising situations requiring immediate decisions or reporting.

  • Ability to manage and direct complex, high-profile situations with limited direction or supervision

  • Flexibility, motivation and the ability to work independently, with limited supervision

Position will work in the field in their own vehicle. Conducts safety audits of construction sites and works in outside in a variety of weather conditions.
