Overall Summary: The Driver works under the direction of the Manager of Fleet Operations & Manager of Warehouse Operations. This role is responsible for transporting large volumes of food from local business and private donors to the Food Bank. The responsibilities include delivering grocery orders to local schools, agencies and churches. The Driver works within time constraints and must fulfill their duties in a timely and safe manner. The Driver is responsible for planning the weekly schedule in collaboration with the Fleet & Warehouse Manager and devising the most time and cost-efficient route. The Driver represents the Society at all times so he/she must be courteous, professional and display excellent interpersonal skills. Major Responsibilities: Transportation of Food The Driver transports large volumes of food from business and private sponsor and distributes to numerous organizations by: • Following a daily schedule of pickups and deliveries • Reviewing any additions and or changes to the daily schedule with Operations Manager • Adjusting their schedule to accommodate random pick ups • Picking up food donations from donors and liaising with their staff as required • Transporting large volumes of food safely and loading and unloading utilizing safe lifting/safe work practices; • Lifting up to 50 lbs at a time • When alone, containers weighing over 50 lbs must have product transferred into secondary container reducing the weight below 50 lbs • Lifting over 50 lbs will require the use of a dolly or assistance from a volunteer or staff member • Handling food according to safe food practices • Ensuring food is delivered to the correct organization and on time • Giving direction to and mentoring assistant volunteers or staff members which are assigned to assist ensuring they follow safety procedures • Weighing food transported (received and distributed) and recording all weights onto the proper recording sheets. • Ensuring the cab and box of all Food Bank vehicles are organized and clean at all times • When daily driver duties are completed the driver shall assist in the warehouse completing duties assigned by the Operations Manager and/or the Warehouse Coordinator. • Other duties as assigned • Attendance at weekend and evening events as required/requested Experience, Skill and Abilities • Experience driving a truck (one to three years) • Experience in a warehouse • Knowledge of safe lifting practices • Clean Drives Abstract • Excellent interpersonal skills • Good organizational skills • Must be flexible • Clean Criminal Record Check
