Reporting to the director, communications & marketing and supervising a team of content specialists, the manager, creative services acts as the lead strategist for the creation of dynamic,visual online marketing content and traditional printed collateral materials. Part art director, part hands-on creator, this role is highly collaborative and focused on finding and implementing solutions to marketing challenges through engaging design that leverages the University’s unique visual identity. The manager oversees visual and marketing content creation for capilanou.ca and the University’s primary social media channels. The manager leads the research, implementation, measurement and analysis of key campaigns. The manager regularly liaises with the other members of the communications & marketing team, as well as the University’s deans, directors, and program managers. The manager works in close collaboration with the University’s information technology department to ensure visual communications are aligned and supported by the appropriate systems. The manager oversees the work of staff and third party service providers engaged to support its digital communications and marketing efforts to realize a range of services from singular projects to full-scale campaigns—always working with an unwavering commitment to the University’s brand standards. Key Responsibilities: 1. Visual Marketing Strategy • Leads visual design communications and campaigns from research through to production • Partners with IT to develop digital solutions for visual design and multi-media initiatives 2. Communications • Represents and acts for the director of communications & marketing when requested • Acts consistently as a conscientious champion of the University’s brand identity and ensures content, style, format are effective and engaging 3. Personnel management and department support • Plans, schedules, directs, evaluates and supervises the work of visual content creators and related roles • Plans workflows for the digital content and design teams and prepares progress reports and updates for the director Required Knwoledge, Skills & Abilities • Proven experience in creative art direction and graphic design including strategy development, project management and coordination • Advanced knowledge of current and emerging visual communications technologies • Excellent skills in typesetting and production for advertising, branding, corporate communications, environmental design, integrated campaigns, print, social media, videos, wayfinding and websites • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills • Proven management and administrative skills Required Qualifications & Experience • Minimum of a four-year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as graphic design, new media, interactive design, communications, marketing or a related field. • Five years demonstrated experience in graphic design and art direction including a supervisory role. Post-secondary environment is preferred. • Project Management Certification (PMP), people management or equivalent combination of training/experience is required.
