Our client is Canada's premier claims adjusting firm with a superior reputation for claims settlement and overall performance.

The Role:

Within our client's Claim Services Group, the Surety Claims Adjuster will be responsible for the investigation and adjusting of surety bond claims and crime, as well as professional liability and directors' and officers' liability claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle claims from notification to resolution through timely and accurate investigations, coverage analyses, negotiation and problem solving skills;
  • Consistently communicate claim developments, exposure analyses and requests for authority to clients;
  • Draft timely coverage assessment reports and coverage letters;
  • Deliver superior customer service through effective interaction with client;
  • Effectively document all relevant events in a timely and efficient manner as cases develop, including evaluation of facts giving rise to the loss, coverage and exposure under various policy forms;
  • Maintain a current diary to monitor claims for new developments, follow up on requests from clients, update management and complete diary activities;
  • Participate in and represent clients in litigation and work alongside various professionals such attorneys, notaries, engineers, architects, accountants, trustees, etc.;
  • Manage expectations of various parties and negotiate and settle claims within prescribed authority.

Education, knowledge and experience required:

  • University degree (Law, engineering or accounting) or a combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Adjuster's license designation or working towards completion;
  • CIP or FCIP designation is an asset;
  • Fluent in French and English - both written and oral a must;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Accounting and computation skills; working knowledge of financial statements and accounting records an asset;
  • Strong computer skills to adapt to various IT environments; advanced knowledge of Excel and Word an asset;
  • Advanced knowledge and attention to detail in investigations, analytical reasoning and interpretation of complex legal documents;
  • Extremely well-honed organizational skills to prioritize day-to-day activities to allow efficient and effective progress of file management activities;
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with a wide spectrum of people;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Willing to travel
