We conduct and collaborate on pedagogical research within all disciplines as we engage in scholarship, continuous program improvement and program evaluation, to advance the teaching and learning mandate of the University of Guelph. The Associate Director (AD), OTL reports to the Director and is responsible for leading and managing a unit that promotes and supports the enhancement of educational approaches and practices at the University of Guelph. To this end, the AD is responsible for prioritizing and overseeing the resources, services and programs offered by OTL. These activities include, the following broadly: At an institutional level the AD, OTL: Develops, coordinates, and participates in projects and responds to university strategic pedagogical initiatives that advance student learning, retention, success and the overall quality of learning in a curriculum. Coordinates processes and establishes projects in collaboration with a variety of offices on campus to facilitate the continuous improvement of curriculum, for example with the Offices of Quality Assurance, Indigenous Initiatives, Experiential Learning, Diversity &Human Rights, Faculty &Staff Relations etc. Leads approaches in support of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning by establishing common institutional frameworks, processes, and projects to measure the effectiveness of teaching, quality of learning, and alignment of curriculum. Establishes collaborative opportunities to nurture a culture of inclusion(e.g. with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the Associate Dean, Academic Equity and Anti-racism, DHR etc.,) to advance the university recommendations and commitments to Indigenizing, Decolonizing, Access and Equity in the pedagogical landscape. Operational within OTL the AD: Guides the daily operational budgeting process, and recommends to the Director OTL, the best use of resources in achieving institutional priorities and OTL goals. Guides and manages the daily activities, supervision, and ongoing development of professional staff, student staff and collaborating staff as projects demand. Leads planning and strategic aligning of OTL activities with institutional needs, strategic priorities and staff capacity Provides leadership to the ED professional and support staff members in identifying and implementing short and long-term priorities and strategies to best meet ongoing and changing needs of the University's teaching and learning environment. Additional individual activities of the AD, OTL include the following: Provides consultative expertise to programs, departments, colleges, and the university, in investigating, recommending, implementing, and supporting the best use of pedagogical practices to achieve program learning outcomes. Provides leadership and collaborative opportunities to facilitate the creation of new programs and new curriculum outcomes and proposals, including the strategic enrichment and review of curriculum. Guides and participates in pedagogical research to determine educational effectiveness and advances the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Represents the University, and OTL,and liaises and collaborates with other service and academic departments internally and externally in the planning and advancing of pedagogical practice and educational research. Requirements for the position include: Master's degree in a related field (Ph.D. preferred) with several years of experience in educational and curriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience . Extensive experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning; quantitative and qualitative research, design and data management skills; extensive program planning, management, assessment and evaluation experience; resource development skills; demonstrated experience in management and leadership; and, the desire to achieve results. Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level is required. Demonstrated expertise in implementing educational development strategies that promote evidence-based, research-informed approaches to teaching and learning in higher education and must also demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills, and the ability to engage colleagues and academic partners in meaningful, collaborative dialogue. Working in a fast-paced environment, the incumbent must possess superior organizational and time management skills, and proven problem solving and project management skills.
