Senior Data Architect - Data Engineering, Brampton, ON

This role will play a vital role in the design and implementation of the end-to-end architecture for the Loblaw Technology and Analytics Cloud Data Platform, which supports our analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning/artificial intelligence capabilities. The responsibilities will include defining data management standards, best practices, and data modeling, as well as conceptualizing new design patterns at project and Enterprise levels. The chosen candidate will collaborate closely with Engineers, Analysts, and Business leads to ensure alignment with the organization's goals and objectives, and act as an ambassador for the platform's guiding principles. #LI-Hybrid

What You'll Do:
  • Design robust, reusable and scalable data solutions and pipeline frameworks to automate ingestion, processing and delivery of batch and real-time streaming data
  • Lead data architecture initiatives and collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Governance and Business partners to ensure designs are in compliance with data management standards and best practices.
  • Recommend the appropriate data stores and build and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for transactional, Business Intelligence, operational and analytical platforms.
  • Produce and implement solutions for all stages and aspects of the data solution life cycle, including non-functional requirements such as high availability and disaster recovery. This involves leading the team in data acquisition, publication, quality, security, metadata management.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in data architecture, in order to continuously improve and enhance the data platform

What You Bring:Data Management experience
  • A thorough understanding of the fundamentals of data warehousing, big data, data lakes, data governance and data management with a focus on the data architecture field
  • Proven experience with relational databases (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server) and an understanding of non-relational databases (Fire store, DynamoDB, MongoDB), along with thorough knowledge and hands-on expertise in data modeling concepts and SQL queries
  • Strong understanding of emerging data technologies and concepts such as Data Fabric, Data Mesh, Data Virtualization, and Semantic Layer is a plus
Cloud Computing experience
  • Demonstrated ability with Cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP or AWS with knowledge of cloud migration and integration strategies and techniques
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud platforms and big data services and tools, such as Data Proc, Dataflow, Big Query, S3, Redshift, Kafka, and Kubernetes, Hive and Hadoop is a strong asset
Solution Design experience
  • Considerable experience in leading solution architecture, design, and development of end-to-end data systems that enable well-integrated transactional, business intelligence, and analytical data platforms
  • Strong knowledge of industry-wide architecture patterns and approaches with the ability to derive meaningful insights from requirements and think big picture
Soft-Skills
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional team management skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A great teammate and self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently drive projects forward
