Your Opportunity

Our Montreal office is looking for a Partner to join the International Tax team and own the following responsibilities:

  • Provide Strategic International Tax Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies for clients engaged in international business activities. Analyze complex tax issues, including global restructuring, foreign tax credits, tax treaties, and withholding taxes, to optimize tax efficiencies and minimize tax risks.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding their business objectives, industry challenges, and specific international tax needs. Serve as a trusted advisor, proactively identifying opportunities to add value through strategic tax planning and proactive communication.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and support in delivering exceptional client service. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, promoting knowledge sharing, professional growth, and continuous learning.
  • International Tax Compliance: Oversee the preparation and review of complex international tax compliance filings, including foreign reporting forms, foreign affiliate/controlled foreign affiliate reporting, and FAPI calculations, etc. Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations in various jurisdictions.
  • Risk Management and Quality Control: Develop and implement processes and procedures to mitigate tax risks, ensure compliance with international tax regulations, and maintain the highest quality standards. Conduct internal reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure accurate and timely delivery of tax services.
  • Thought Leadership and Business Development: Stay abreast of evolving international tax laws, regulations, and emerging trends. Proactively share industry insights and thought leadership with clients and colleagues through publications, presentations, and participation in professional organizations. Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, cultivating relationships, and participating in proposal development.

Qualifications:

  • You have completed your CPA designation as well as the In-Depth Tax Program and/or Masters in Tax.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in international tax planning and consulting, preferably within a public accounting firm or multinational corporation. Demonstrated expertise in cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, foreign tax credits, and tax treaty analysis. Prior experience in managing and leading teams is essential.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Canadian and international tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements. Familiarity with tax issues related to global business operations, including permanent establishment, thin capitalization rules, repatriation of profits, and Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex tax scenarios, interpret tax legislation, and provide practical and creative solutions. Attention to detail and accuracy are crucial to ensure compliance and minimize tax risks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to clients and team members. Proven leadership abilities, including the capability to inspire, motivate, and mentor a team of professionals.
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship management skills. Proven ability to identify opportunities for service expansion, lead proposal efforts, and develop a network of referral sources within the international tax community.
  • Strong proficiency in tax software and relevant technology platforms. Experience with tax research tools, data analytics, and financial modeling software is desired
