Detailed description: 
Under the supervision of a mechanical engineer and as part of the design team, the mechanical designer will undertake the following tasks:
•Design modifications to the structure, mechanical equipment or interior finishing of rail vehicles.
•Perform layout studies and design supporting structures and brackets as per applicable standards and design requirements.
•Design bolted assemblies, weldments and sheet metal components in mild steel, high-strength-low-alloy or stainless steels.
•Design plastic or composite components.
•Select hardware and other components as per engineer’s instructions.
•Create bill of material for the manufacturing of components and assemblies and for their installation on railway vehicles or stationary installations.
•Produce drawings for modification, manufacturing, assembly and installation of railway vehicle components.
•As required, develop shop and installation instructions.
•Occasionally, take on-site measurements and provide shop technical support for the manufacturing and installation of mechanical components or systems.
Skills and Experience:
•DEC or bachelor's degree in mechanical design.
•Minimum five years experience in mechanical design, including two years with Solidworks 3D modeling software (experience with CATIA or Inventor will be considered).
•Experience in metal working shop or good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
•Bilingual, English and French.
•Solid knowledge of Microft Office softwares (Outlook, Word and Excel).
•Experience in the railway or transportation industry is an advantage.
•Knowledge of FRA, APTA, AAR, SAE, ASME, CSA or Transport Canada standards pertinent to rail vehicles will be required.
